Powerspin

AN EVOLUTION OF ALTERNATOR INNOVATION.

MPA, along with the nonprofit organization Global Inheritance, has developed a revolutionary application for remanufactured alternators: PowerSpin. Using man-made energy from nine cyclists on Schwinn bicycles, MPA powered its AAPEX 2008 booth exhibit

PowerSpin showcases the next level of creating and storing mechanical energy as electricity through human power. Each bicycle is outfitted to convert cyclists' kinetic energy into electricity - Pure Energy - using custom-designed training stands and MPA's automotive alternators.

The power created by all nine bikes is fed into an alternative energy PowerCell where the load on each bike can be adjusted to maximize input power to the batteries storing the energy. A custom-built box shows viewers where all this energy is gathered - they can see right through its windowed enclosure to watch the energy as it's measured. The DC power generated by the PowerSpin is converted to AC power using a 1,500-watt pure sine-wave inverter, making the cyclists' power suitable for any 110-VAC appliance. In this case, enabling the tunes that a live DJ is "PowerSpinning."

RECYCLE.

REUSE.

REMANUFACTURE.

MPA is inherently green: remanufacturing a product saves up to 91% of the energy that would have been used to produce the part from scratch, according to the Automotive Parts Remanufactures Association. We continually reduce our, and your, carbon footprint and greenhouse gasses.
