T3+ Testing is a triple-stage, multiple
testing series that combines standardized
industry procedures with custom
diagnostic testing equipment, all taking
place in our state-of-the-art ISO/TS 16949
Certified facilities. This rigorous process ensures that every unit in every
box will meet or exceed OE requirements.
T3+ Testing requires that every unit be subjected to scrutiny at
least 3 times throughout the remanufacturing production process.

Our tests include:

TEST 1: Initial sample approvals to validate that all
components conform to required specifications
and functionality

TEST 2: Critical sub-assemblies are 100% tested on
specialized equipment prior to final assembly

TEST 3: 100% end-of-line testing on proprietary,
load-based testers across a full range of
operating requirements

TEST +: Plus, random unit audit testing to further
validate complete quality and performance
across inventory

Amidst an uncertain climate in automotive production, I remain committed to the highest quality aftermarket products. In 2009, I focused on providing our state-of-the-art resources for smaller starter and alternator remanufacturers by acquiring them and bringing their production in-house at MPA. As I continue to reduce this industry’s carbon footprint, I will continue to identify opportunities to save resources for our future generations. I was able to share some of our story in Union Bank’s most recent national ad campaign.

Manufacturing and supplying the highest quality
starters and alternators is only half our battle. Cataloging them is the other. We know that if it’s not in the catalog, it just isn’t getting sold. Over the past few years, we have focused heavily on our cataloging operations and the result: our very own, proprietary production information database and cataloging system. What was originally intended for internal use only, now doubles as our own print and online cataloging system currently in use for our Quality-Built and Xtreme Heavy Duty in-house brands. (Our Quality-Built 2009 print catalog just won an award from the AIA!) MPA’s cataloging system, which comes in ACES & Legacy formats, offers standard main lookup features such as part number, OE part number, industry references (i.e. Lester) and competitive crosses. Every MPA base part number features full color images including 4 side/front/side/rear angle views and basic attribute information such as pulley, clocking, etc. The database also serves as an advanced market research tool, linking to applications through vehicle registrations, which serves as a guide for developing new part numbers and analyzing
product life cycles. The system also allows us to develop custom, specialty
catalogs by application (i.e. Reman Heavy Duty Agricultural Starters only).
Our catalog in total offers our customers 98% coverage for all AAIA applications 1968-2009 with Polk over 1,000. We are often first-to-market with late model coverage new additions (232 just added). We also have a Consolidation Committee that meets quarterly to reconcile consolidation opportunities (similarities in form, fit, function and application) to offer a more concise, high quality line of starters and alternators.

A common cause of Ford PMGR (Permanent Magnet Gear Reduction) starter failure is corrosion at the solenoid ignition terminal. Early Ford designs came with a male spade terminal for ignition lead connection. Although the starter was functional, the corrosion-prone connection was leading to continuous or intermittent start failure.

To solve the problem, we install a new harness end on these starters and
provide a new eyelet/post connection.

We have a Technical Bulletin (TBS0073) with installation instructions for the new connection.

New harness installation instructions:

1. Remove old connector by cutting the S-terminal harness on vehicle 5” behind the connector.
2. Strip insulation using a stripping tool. Remove the wire approx. 3/8” back from tip.
3. Crimp connector after sliding back included shrink tube. Squeeze base of connector until connection is secure.

As Vice President of Sales, Rick Mochulsky leads the
sales force responsible for all new account acquisition and retention for Motorcar Parts
of America’s traditional sales channels. Rick began his automotive career in 1979 in Edmonton Alberta as a territory manager with the Dayco Rubber Company. He enjoyed a 26-year career in the Automotive Aftermarket before joining Motorcar Parts of America in November 2005. His previous positions at Motorcar Parts include Director of Sales for Quality-Built and Director of Sales. Rick’s sales management track record includes successful brand launches, product penetration into new markets, managing double-digit sales increases and acquisitions.
